In our March 2025 members meeting, we considered three paths forward: continuing the status quo, taking on a deep listening project, or shutting down the PAC.

Our members expressed deep concern about the current political climate. The consensus was a desire to continue our core mission (support to candidates) and also fund a deep listening project. We are now putting this consensus proposal to a straw poll vote.

Here are the details of this proposal:

Allocate a $6,000 budget to fund a part-time summer organizer, including travel, event, and printing expenses
Hire an organizer who is a local resident with deep rural roots, possibly a community college student
Update the PAC website to reflect the current political moment and the full history of our organization
Identify regional or national partners to expand the scale and impact of our 2026 strategy
Host at least 10 deep listening sessions at venues like coffee shops and county parks across Poweshiek and Tama Counties
Use results of our listening sessions to design and administer a regional questionnaire (poll on local issues)
Sustain and expand our current dues-paying membership through the 2026 elections

Our proposed 2025-2026 strategy is ambitious. It requires the PAC chair and treasurer to step up their leadership, PAC supporters to increase their participation, and for us to get some hired help to keep things moving along day-to-day.

All past PAC supporters are eligible to participate in this straw poll. The vote is open until midnight on Friday, March 21st. Please respond ASAP so we can get to work on next steps.
